Privacy Policy

MarkdownFTW ("we", "our", "us") is a client-side markdown editor and converter available at markdownftw.com. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

The short version: Your markdown content is processed entirely in your browser. We never see it, store it, or transmit it. We collect minimal anonymous analytics and process payments through Stripe. That's it.

All markdown editing, rendering, and format conversion (PDF, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, HTML) happens client-side in your web browser using JavaScript. Your content is never sent to our servers or any third-party service. When you close the tab, your content is gone — we have no ability to recover it because we never had it.

File imports (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PDF, HTML) are also processed entirely in your browser. Imported files are read locally by JavaScript and are not uploaded anywhere.

We use the following services for anonymous, aggregate analytics:

• Vercel Analytics — Anonymous page view and performance metrics. No cookies, no personal data. See Vercel's privacy policy.
• Vercel Speed Insights — Anonymous web performance monitoring (Core Web Vitals).
• Google Ads (gtag.js) — Conversion tracking for advertising campaigns. Google may set cookies. See Google's privacy policy.
• Google AdSense — We display advertisements through Google AdSense, which may use cookies and web beacons to serve ads based on your visits to this and other websites. See Google's ad technology policies.

We do not use any analytics service that tracks your markdown content, keystrokes, or document contents.

Pro subscriptions and lifetime purchases are processed through Stripe. When you purchase Pro, Stripe collects your payment information (card number, billing address, email). We never see or store your full payment details.

Your Pro license is issued as a JWT (JSON Web Token) stored in your browser's localStorage. There is no account system — no username, no password, no profile. The JWT contains your license type and expiration date. If you clear your browser data, you can restore your license using the email you used at checkout.

MarkdownFTW itself sets no cookies. We use localStorage for:

• Your Pro license JWT token (if purchased)
• Theme preference (dark/light)
• Export usage counter (free tier tracking)

Third-party services (Google Ads, Google AdSense) may set their own cookies. You can manage cookie preferences through your browser settings.

• Your markdown content or documents
• Keystrokes or typing patterns
• File contents you import or export
• Personal information (unless you make a purchase via Stripe)
• Browsing history outside of markdownftw.com

We integrate with the following third-party services:

• Vercel — Hosting and analytics
• Stripe — Payment processing
• Google — Advertising (AdSense) and conversion tracking (Ads/gtag)
• Cloudflare — DNS and security

Each of these services has their own privacy policy. We encourage you to review them.

MarkdownFTW is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information through a Stripe purchase, please contact us.

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Your continued use of MarkdownFTW after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
